Spin-Off Dashboard Austria 2021 (SODA21)
Intro
A lot has happened since the first Spin-off Austria conference in autumn 2020: The concept of spin-offs as the third mission of universities – alongside research and teaching – is receiving more and more attention, both politically and socially. The relevance of successful technology transfer is more tangible than ever, not least because of the significant contribution of a research spin-off to the development of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Why a spin-off dashboard?
The aim of the dashboard is to create transparency about the current figures in the Austrian spin-off ecosystem and to bring best-practice examples to the forefront.
Data Collection
All Austrian universities, non-university research institutions and universities of applied sciences will be personally invited to share their efforts and results with the Spin-Off Austria Initiative, i.e. background information on the institution’s strategy and activities for start-up support (e.g. curricular and extracurricular programmes), number of exploitation spin-offs and academic start-ups and good practice cases with particular successes (funding, prizes, cooperations, etc.).
The Austrian Knowledge Transfer Centers (WTZ) support the survey by coordinating among the project partners if necessary (e.g. in case of double nominations). The Knowledge Transfer Centers are funded by the Austria Wirtschaftsservice, with funds from the National Foundation for Research, Technology and Development (Österreich-Fonds), and are an association of universities and universities of applied sciences (project duration of WTZ: July 1, 2019-December 31, 2021).
The period of the survey contents is defined from 1.1.2018 to 1.7.2021
When will the results be available?
An expert jury will evaluate the submitted projects at the beginning of October and nominate the most convincing submissions. The nominated institutions will have the opportunity to present their concepts and successes and share their experiences at the second Spin-off Austria Conference on 23.11.2021.
